Methi Chicken / Fenugreek Chicken

Methi Chicken / Fenugreek Chicken is one of the delicacy chicken dish.Bascially a Moghul dish which was popular in Hyderbad where the moghuls had one of their bases. Methi leaves & chicken go hand in hand or probably can call them best friends.The flavour of the methi leaves is a kind of little bitter so in order to subdue that flavour we combine these leaves with curds,since the curds has the ability to reduce the biterness of the leaves. Moreover curds gives a creamy texture to the gravy.The combination of all the spices with curds,methi leaves & chicken is simply scrumptious. Hence we can say this Methi Chicken /Fenugreek Chicken is a must try kind of dish !!

Ingredients :-

For Marination :-

Chicken                       500 gms(curry cut /boneless )

Methi leaves               2-3 handful (cleaned & washed)

Ginger                           1 tbsp (chopped)

Garlic                            2 tbsp (chopped )

Onion                             1 big (paste)

Curd                                1 cup

Red chilli powder          1/2 tsp(to taste)

Coriander powder         1 tsp

Pepper                              ½ tsp

Turmeric powder            ¼ tsp

Salt                                     ½ tsp (to taste )


For seasoning :-

Cumin                                 ½ tsp

Oil/ghee                              1 tsp

Asafoetida                           ¼ tsp

Garam masala powder ¾ -1 tsp(optional)

Method :-

Wash the chicken and marinate for an hour.

In a kadai heat oil/ghee add cummin seeds allow it to splutter.

Add asafoetida & the marinated chicken give it a good mix .

Close it with a lid and cook on slow flame till the chicken is soft .

Now check the spice level if preferred add the garam masala and garnish with methi leaves.

Serve hot with rice or roti.
